Robert E. King received his B.Sc.(Hons) and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester in England in 1957 and 1958 respectively. In 1960 he obtained a Ph.D. from Queen’s University in N. Ireland for his work on Non-linear and Adaptive Control. In 1970 he was awarded a D.Sc. by the University of Manchester for his contributions to Systems & Control .
He was a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Physical Laboratories in Teddington, England. Since 1962 he has served on the faculties of Electrical Engineering at Queen’s University, N. Ireland, Columbia University in New York and City University of New York between 1962 and 1978. In 1989 he was elected Professor of Automation and Robotics in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Patras, Greece. He retired in 2004. He has been a Senior Research Associate at the Research Academic Computer Technology Institute in Athens since 1999.
Between 1981 and 1992 he was Head of Industrial Information Systems at the Heracles Cement Company S.A. (now owned by Lafarge) in Greece and was one of the pioneers in applying Intelligent Control in the cement industry.
He has served as Visiting Professor at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Saudi Arabia, the National Research Center and the National Technical University in Athens, Greece.
He is a Life Senior Member of the IEEE and served as Chairman of the Greek Chapter of the IEEE Control Systems Society for a number of years and in 2003 the Chapter was awarded the IEEE Outstanding Chapter Award.
